Online tutoring

One-on-one online tutoring, matched to your course

Tell us the subject, the academic level and what you are stuck on. The team looks for a tutor who teaches that material, and lessons run one-on-one over video at times you agree together.

  • A tutor matched to your request, rather than a directory to search through
  • Lessons are one-on-one, never a group class or a recorded video
  • A free demo lesson before you decide to continue

Subjects

What online tutoring covers

Support is arranged around a specific subject and academic level rather than sold as general study help, so the first thing to include in a request is the class you are in.

School subjects

  • Math
  • English
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Biology
  • Science
  • Spanish and French
  • History and Government
  • Psychology

College courses

  • Business and Finance
  • Accounting
  • Engineering
  • Computer Science
  • Health Sciences
  • Sciences
  • Law

Academic levels

Tutoring is matched to the level a student is actually working at, not only their school year.

  • Elementary school
  • Middle school
  • High school
  • Advanced Placement courses
  • Honors courses
  • International Baccalaureate
  • College

This list is illustrative rather than exhaustive. Include the subject or course and the academic level in your request so the team can confirm whether a suitable tutor is available.

What an online lesson actually looks like

Three steps of an online lesson: connecting with a tutor by video, working through course material on a shared whiteboard, and receiving guidance. The whiteboard shows f(x) = x squared minus 4x plus 3 factorised as (x minus 1)(x minus 3), with roots at 1 and 3 and a vertex at (2, -1).
Lessons run over video with a shared whiteboard, so you and your tutor work through the same problem at the same time.

How it works

How an online lesson is arranged

  1. Tell us what you need

Share the subject or course, the academic level, what you want to work on, and the days and times that suit you. Mention your time zone so the team can look for someone who can teach at those hours.

  2. We look for a suitable tutor

The team reviews the request and looks for a tutor who teaches that material and can work at the times you gave, rather than handing you a list to sort through yourself.

  3. Meet your tutor in a free demo lesson

The first lesson is a real one: you bring something you are working on, the tutor works through it with you, and you decide afterwards whether to continue.

Lesson options

Online or in person

Lessons over video

Tutor and student work on a shared screen, so a worked solution, an essay plan or a diagram is built up together while both people are looking at the same thing. All that is needed is a reliable connection and a device that can join the agreed call.

Best for

  • Courses where a nearby tutor is unlikely
  • Fitting sessions around a school or class timetable
  • Keeping the same tutor if you move or travel

Lessons in person

In-person tutoring can also be requested. Whether it can be arranged depends on the subject, academic level, location and tutor availability, so it is something to raise when you send your request and the team will confirm what is possible.

Best for

  • Younger students who concentrate better alongside a tutor
  • Families who would rather meet face to face

Straight answers

What you can expect

  • How matching works

The Prep2Perfection team reviews your request and looks for a suitable tutor, rather than asking families to choose from an unfiltered list.

  • Before you commit

New customers can start with a free demo lesson to meet the tutor and see whether the match feels suitable before continuing.

  • Across the United States

Prep2Perfection supports elementary school, middle school, high school and college students across a range of subjects.

  • Getting started

The team begins looking for a suitable tutor after receiving your request. Same-day matching may be possible, but it is not guaranteed and depends on the subject, academic level, preferred lesson format, location and tutor availability.

Questions

Common questions

What actually happens in an online lesson?

The tutor and student meet on a video call and work through material together on a shared screen — a problem set, an assignment you are stuck on, or a topic you want explained again. Lessons are built around what the student brings rather than a fixed syllabus the tutor works through regardless.

What technology do I need for online tutoring?

A reliable internet connection and a device that can join the agreed video call. Any subject-specific materials or additional tools can be confirmed when the tutoring arrangement is matched.

Are lessons one-on-one or in a group?

One-on-one. The lesson is built around a single student, which is what makes it possible to spend a whole session on the one topic that is causing trouble rather than moving at a group pace.

Can lessons be scheduled in the evening or at weekends?

Lesson times depend on tutor availability. Include your preferred days, times and time zone in your request so the team can look for a match who can teach at those hours.

Does online tutoring work for younger students?

It can, and elementary and middle school students are supported. Younger students usually do better in shorter sessions with an adult nearby for the first few lessons. If that does not suit, you can ask about in-person tutoring when you send your request.

How do we know it is working?

Progress can be reviewed through agreed learning goals, a stronger grasp of the subject, completed work and changes in assessments or grades where relevant. Regular contact between the student, family and tutor helps identify what is improving and where more support is needed.

What if the tutor is not the right fit?

Let the team know and Prep2Perfection will help arrange another suitable match. A first pairing not working is a normal thing to resolve, not a reason to abandon the support.
