What Chicago families request most

Chicago Public Schools is one of the largest school districts in the country, and its students move through the same Illinois requirements whether they attend a CPS school, a suburban district or a private school. These are the requests the team sees most often from the area.

Elementary and middle school

  • Reading and math foundations
  • Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) preparation, grades 3–8
  • Building study habits before high school

High school math and science

  • Math, through Algebra 2
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Keeping pace with a specific course or catching up after a gap

College and exam preparation

Illinois has required the ACT, not the SAT, for high school graduation since the 2024-25 school year — a genuine change from the state’s prior SAT requirement, and one reason this page emphasizes ACT preparation alongside the SAT.

  • ACT preparation
  • SAT preparation for college applications
  • College-level coursework

This list reflects common requests, not a fixed program. Include your school, course and academic level in your request so the team can confirm whether a suitable tutor is available.

Two different kinds of work

Two students working side by side. One is on school coursework — a notebook of algebra and geometry working, with math and science textbooks stacked beside it. The other is on ACT preparation, with a practice test booklet and a bubbled answer sheet.
Keeping up with this semester’s classes and preparing for the ACT are separate jobs. Illinois students often need both, but they are not the same tutoring, and a tutor should be matched to whichever one you actually need.

How it works

How tutoring is arranged for Chicago students

  1. Tell us your student’s subject, level and school situation

Share the subject or course, academic level, and anything specific to your school or district — for example, whether your student needs IAR support, a specific high school course, or ACT preparation.

  2. We look for a suitable tutor

The team reviews the request and looks for a tutor who fits your student’s subject, level and needs, rather than assigning from a fixed local roster.

  3. Start with a free demo lesson

Meet the tutor and work through something real from your student’s current class before deciding whether to continue.

Questions

Common questions

Does Prep2Perfection have an office in Chicago?

No. Prep2Perfection does not operate a local office in Chicago or anywhere else. Tutoring is arranged online, with local in-person tutoring requested and confirmed during matching where a suitable tutor is available — there is no established local branch or guaranteed in-person coverage.

I thought Illinois used the SAT. Has that changed?

Yes — since the 2024-25 school year, Illinois has required the ACT, not the SAT, as its high school graduation assessment, and all juniors take the ACT with Writing. If your student is preparing for graduation requirements specifically, ACT preparation is the more directly relevant option, though many students still take the SAT as well for college applications.

Are you affiliated with Chicago Public Schools or a specific school?

No. Prep2Perfection is an independent tutoring service and is not affiliated with Chicago Public Schools, any individual Chicago school, or any local school district. A tutor can work alongside whatever your school assigns; there is no partnership with the district itself.

Can a tutor help with IAR preparation for a younger student?

Yes. The Illinois Assessment of Readiness covers English language arts and math for students in grades 3 through 8, and tutoring can focus on the specific skills a younger student is working on rather than general homework help.

Do you tutor college students in the Chicago area?

Yes — college-level tutoring is available for students at any Chicago-area college or university, matched to the specific course rather than a general subject. See our College Tutoring page for more on how that works.

How many hours of tutoring do Chicago families typically start with?

It depends on whether your student needs to catch up on one topic, keep pace with a current class, or prepare for the ACT or SAT. Monthly packages are sold in blocks of hours, and the team can suggest a realistic starting point once they know the situation.
